These seven mottoes, and eight lines from Addisone paraphrase of Psalm xix. , are engraved upon the face of a vertical south dial, erected in the Albert Park, Middlesbrough, by the gift of H. W. F. Bolckow, M. P. The design and workmanship were done by Mr. John Smith, of South Stockton, who was seventy years of age when he executed the commission, but he has been deeply interested in the art of dialling Bint his boyhood. The second motto being in Greek characters, we have given the English equivalents. Time Tide Doth Waist Thebefobe Make Haste WB SHALL--On a dial which originally stood in the garden at Canille Hall, the teaching of the motto being enforced by the position . . .
