AT THE SAME TIME HE WAS A GREAT MATHMATICIAN AND ASTRONOMER, AND WROTE A GREAT DEAL ON ASTRONOMY. INDEED ALL THE MANUSCRIPTS EXISTING IN THE NATIONAL LIBRARY OF EGYPT AND AUTHENTICALLY ASCRIBED TO HIM DEAL WITH ASTRONOMY AND MATHMATICS. HE WAS LEARNED IN THE SYRIAC LANGUAGE AND MADE MANY TRANSLATIONS FROM IT INTO ARABIC, AND FROM OTHER LANGUAGES AS WELL. HE LIVED UNDER AL MUAFFAK BILLAH FATHER OF ABI'L ABBAS.
