The novel Clootie is a horror/psychological thriller story with an interesting twist. A death occurs in a small Arizona town and the authorities are puzzled by the unusual markings on the back of the victim’s head. It is eventually deemed by the police to be an animal attack. The local coroner’s assistant Noah disagrees and begins a search to determine the true cause of death. He finds a partner in a female newspaper editor, Talia, who has been tracking similar odd occurrences, and together they decide to seek out and pursue the attacker. While trying to unlock the mystery, they encounter Sarah, a local woman who suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and who claims that she has seen the creature they seek. Her description of the creature is confirmed with the help of a Native American shaman and his niece, who themselves are locked in a struggle between the old ways and modern life. The characters intertwine and face danger and a journey of self-discovery in a story that is as old as time
