[EAN: 9780070929326], Gebraucht, sehr guter Zustand, [PU: McGraw-Hill Ryerson, Toronto, Toronto], Jacket, 1st printing of the first Canadian hardcover edition of the author's second book and only novel. LAID IN and not affixed to a page is a 3 x 4" bookplate SIGNED by Munro in black ink. Flat-signed copies of the first hardcover edition are scarce. The book is square and tight, and the jacket is well-preserved and not priced, as issued. The fore-edges of the paper, the edges of the creme-colored boards, the paste-downs and endpapers are tanned, which is typical of the first edition. The bottom corner of the front board is bruised, and the bottom corner of the back board is rubbed. There is a stray pen mark (red) at the heel of the book's spine and a small tea-coloured stain on the bottom page edges. There are no previous owner's markings. Tanning to the off-white sections of the jacket is uniform with no difference between the spine and the panels. Minor shelf wear to the dark sections of the jacket. The heel and crown of the jacket's spine show wear and tears. There are no losses. There is similar but less wear to the edges of the jacket at the hinges and one short closed tear to the top edge of the back panel. The flaps are crisp with sharp corners. The signed bookplate (laid in) has an adhesive on the reverse side which is activated with moisture. Maximize the value of a signed bookplate by leaving it loosely inserted in the book so that you or a subsequent owner are free to transfer to another book. Canada's most highly-decorated writer, Munro was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2013 and cited as "a master of the contemporary short story." She won the Man Booker International Prize in 2009. She has won Canada's Giller Prize twice and the Governor General's Literary Award for Fiction three times: Dance of the Happy Shades (1968), Who Do You Think You Are? (1978) and The Progress of Love (1986). Beginning in the 1960s, her stories were published regularly in The New Yorker, Atlantic Monthly and The Paris Review. Note to Collectors: never an avid signer, when Munro completed the publicity tour for The Love of A Good Woman she announced that she would no longer make public appearances to promote her books.
