[SC: 11.31], [PU: New York: Harper & Row, 1971], BOOKS LITERATURE MODERN WOMEN WORKS BY NOISBN, First US edition, first printing, including eight previously unpublished line drawings by Plath, and a new note on her life by Lois Ames, whose full-length biography of Plath was never completed. This semi-autobiographical work was the author's only novel. It was first released in the UK on 14 January 1963, just five weeks before Plath's death, under the pseudonym Victoria Lucas, adopted by Plath to avoid offending her mother, who appears in the novel thinly disguised. The work did not appear under Plath's own name until the third edition of 1966. Octavo. Original dark red half cloth, spine lettered in silver and white, pink cloth sides, front cover stamped with publisher's device in white, endpapers and top edge pink. With dust jacket. With 8 line drawings by the author. Rubbing to extremities, very light foxing and couple of tiny splash marks on edges, contents clean; lightly rubbed jacket with short closed tear at head of front panel and small puncture on front flap fold, not price-clipped: a very good copy in like jacket.<
