Ratna Sagar/ Primus Books, 2012. Hardcover. New. This work is a study of the connections between trade and politics in the Coromandel Coast in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, with special focus on Madras. It questions the largely uncontested view that trade and traders in pre-modern India were disconnected from the world of politics and the state, arguing instead that south Indian merchants depended on, and functioned within the structures and the stability provided by the state. Trade and Politics on the Coromandel Coast: Seventeenth and Early Eighteenth Centuries addresses the breakdown of the political structures within which the merchants operated, and the impact of the arrival of the Europeans, especially the English. In so doing, it explores the transitional nature of the seventeenth century and the ways in which the European trading companies, Indian states, and merchants interacted with each other. Situated within the larger historical context of the trading world of the Coromandel Coast, this regional history challenges accepted notions about the place of merchants and the state, and through a detailed economic history, sheds new light on the political and transitional nature of the period. Printed Pages: 149., Ratna Sagar/ Primus Books, 2012, Free Press, 1998-08-10. Hardcover. Used:Good., Free Press, 1998-08-10, Sydney: Finch Publishing, 2008. Paperback thick octavo, very good condition, black & white vignettes, minor edgewear corners. 401 pp. A powerful mix of memoir and environmental expose by a pre-eminent American environmentalist, who argues that modern industrial economy abuses the environment, destroying meaningful work, and disconnects us from the natural world. Also, a chronicle of a young mans' drive to transcend domestic abuse. Explains violence as a pathology that touches every aspect of our lives and indeed affects all aspects of life on Earth. Offers a challenging look at our worldwide sense of community and how we can make things better., Finch Publishing, 2008, InsideOut Media, 2014. Soft cover. New. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. This book was written to inspire a social movement that champions a culture in which connectedness is valued above all-a movement that builds the most important organization of all: the family. As author and contributors, our desire is to win hearts and minds, to inspire people to get back to the basics-to their hearts-to better understand the nature and power of relationships and to connect with each other. : Building connectedness in schools is about the need to make a paradigm shift by challenging the status quo and changing many of the policies and practices that exist in our education system. Although educators take great pride in the notion of working together to explore the possibilities for helping children to succeed in school, I have never been more concerned about how disconnected we are from each other. While many educators possess the vision and the drive to build connectedness in their school communities and are making conscious efforts to do so, responses continue to be reactionary, and preventative practices non-relational in nature. While schools are being magnified as social hubs, resulting in powerful learning experiences for students and increased opportunities to strengthen the fabric of community, they are viewed by many as castles with draw bridges-as closed systems with impenetrable walls. Educators are expressing discouragement with the erosion of their social status, and are weighted down with government-created curricula and a system obsessed with getting results., InsideOut Media, 2014, DR. RANA AWDISH is the Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension Program at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and a Critical Care Physician. She was recently named Medical Director of Care Experience for the ($6 billion, 24,000 employee) Health System. She was awarded the Speak-Up Hero award in 2014 for her work on improving communication, as well as the Critical Care Teaching Award in 2016. In 2017 she was a finalist for the Schwartz Center's 2017 National Compassionate Caregiver of the Year (NCCY) Award and the Physician of the Year award from the Press Ganey National Client Conference. Dr. Awdish is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. In Shock is a riveting first-hand account from a young critical care physician, who in the passage of a moment is transfigured into a dying patient. This transposition, coincidentally timed at the end of her medical training, instantly lays bare the vast chasm between the conventional practice of medicine and the stark reality of the prostrate patient. Hauntingly perceptive and beautifully written, it allows the reader to transform alongside her, and watch what she discovers in our carefully cultivated, yet often misguided standard of care. The author demonstrates through engaging narrative and laser-sharp wit how the unbearable is borne. She comes to understand the fatal flaws in her profession and in her own past actions as a physician. She also achieves, through unflinching presence, a crystalline vision of a new and better possibility. Using her exceptional recall, Awdish fashions an elegant, yet urgent call to action. As she finds herself up against the same self-protective partitions she was trained to construct as a medical student and physician, she artfully illuminates the dysfunction of disconnection. Shatteringly personal, and yet wholly universal, she offers a brave roadmap for anyone navigating illness. At the same time, she presents physicians with a new paradigm and rationale for embracing the emotional bond between doctor and patient. All told, she cogently outlines the redemptive possibilities of dismantling the barriers to connection in all relationships., St. Martin's Press, 2017-10-24, Routledge/Ane Books, 2007. Softcover. Written by experts on the Microsoft NET programming platform, ADO NET for Visual Studio Net 2003 in a Nutshell delivers everything NET programmers will need to get a jump-start on ADO NET technology or to sharpen their skills even further. In the tradition of O`Reilly`s In a Nutshell Series, ADO NET for Visual Studio Net 2003 in a Nutshell is the most complete and concise source of ADO NET information available. ADO NET is the suite of data access technologies in the NET Framework that developers use to build applications services accessing relational data and XML. Connecting to databases is a fundamental part of most applications, whether they are web, Windows®, distributed, client/server, XML Web Services, or something entirely different. But ADO NET is substantially different from Microsoft`s previous data access technologies--including the previous version of ADO--so even experienced developers need to understand the basics of the new disconnected model before they start programming with it. Current with the NET Framework 1.1, ADO NET for Visual Studio Net 2003 in a Nutshell offers one place to look when you need help with anything related to this essential technology, including a reference to the ADO NET namespaces and object model. In addition to being a valuable reference, this book provides a concise foundation for programming with ADO NET and covers a variety of issues that programmers face when developing web applications or Web Services that rely on database access. Using C#, this book presents real world, practical examples that will help you put ADO NET to work immediately. Topics covered in the book include: An Introduction to ADO NET Connections, Commands and DataReaders Disconnected Data Advanced DataSets Transactions DataViews and Data Binding XML and the DataSet Included with the book is a Visual Studio NET add-in that integrates the entire reference directly into your help files. When combining ADO NET for Visual Studio Net 2003 in a Nutshell with other books from O`Reilly`s NET In a Nutshell series, you`ll have a comprehensive, detailed and independent reference collection that will help you become more productive.
