MP3 Audio CD. The Bronze Hand, by Anna Katharine Green, is a quick-paced and really short novella ? reading it won?t take longer than an hour, not even for those who prefer taking their time to enjoy such excellent writing. The story is short, but written by a true master of mystery ? it is not surprising that Conan Doyle himself turned to the works of Anna Katherine Green for inspiration so often. The setting for the plot is Baltimore, the time is Lincoln?s presidential election. A man falls in love with a lady who lives in the apartment under his. One day, he witnesses a man leaving the lady?s apartment running and then he hears the lady crying, so he tries to comfort her and offers to help her. The lady confesses that one of her rings has been stolen and she is afraid that the stolen ring ended up on a bronze hand in a doctor?s office. The protagonist agrees to check the bronze hand and that is where the mystery story really begins. The path that leads to the bronze hand is full of dangers, but our gentleman goes on to find the ring nevertheless. The Bronze Hand is certainly an outstanding example of the author?s mystery weaving and character building genius, but it is not her most famous work. Known as one of the novelists who created the genre of mystery and detective fiction, Anna Katharine Green is most famous for her novel entitled The Leavenworth Case, an instant bestseller and the first book in the line of more than 40 other writings. Green?s work is appreciated not only for masterful story-telling, but also for legal accuracy ? Green was known to carry out detailed research before putting anything down to paper, and this attention to detail, paired with unique talent, gave us some of the best detective stories in American literature., 0, MP3 Audio CD. Dead Men Tell No Tales by Ernest William Hornung mixes a wealth-hunting story with a love story streak and some Robinson Crusoe kind of story line, making a great and entertaining adventure story. The protagonist is a man called Cole. He sets off to find his fortune in Australia during the 1851 Gold Rush. He finds only very little of what he came for, so he decides to return to his home in England. He happens to find a ticket for the ship he came on and he boards the ship for the long journey. On the ship, he meets a young lady whom he falls in love with. However, what starts out as a budding love affair soon turns into a tragedy: the ship catches fire and sinks, Cole being the only survivor of the wrecked vessel. He gets home, eventually and that is when the events take a very strange turn. He feels that he is being followed and he is soon dragged into a conspiracy that he eventually reveals, but not until he goes though the most peculiar adventures.Best known for his short stories about A. J. Raffles, an ingenious gentleman thief, Ernest William Hornung was among the most popular novelist in the second half of the 19th century. Several of his stories, including Dead Men Tell No Tales, were inspired by his two-year stay in Australia ? he went there to work as a tutor from 1884 to 1886, an experience that was not very long, but provided Hornung with plenty of knowledge about what life was like in Australia and offered him the opportunity to study the Gold Rush period. However, Dead Men Tell No Tales is a great novel not only because it provides a detailed description of the hardships that fortune hunters had to endure while searching for gold, but also because the story is exciting all the way through ? you will not want to put this one down till the very end., 0<

After optimistically traveling to Australia to participate in the gold rush, Cole decides to return home when his efforts prove to be unsuccessful. Disappointed, Cole boards the same ship he sailed to Australia on, feeling cheated that not much had changed in his life. However, as the voyage home stretches on, it seems patience is all Cole needed. When he first met Eva Denison, a young woman being escorted back to London by her step father, Cole thought little of her. Though, as the two start to talk more and grow closer, a romance blossoms between the two. Unfortunately, the pair are given little chance to explore it when they discover that the ship harbored a dangerous secret. When a tragic accident leaves Cole as seemingly the sole survivor, he returns to London, shaken and ready to put that chapter of his life behind him. But when suspicions start to form about the incident, Cole realizes that his survival was all part of a complex and dubious plot. With complex characters and descriptive prose, Dead Men Tell No Tales by E.W Hornung is a thrilling and suspenseful narrative. First published in 1898, Dead Men Tell No Tales depicts a voyage that Hornung himself was familiar with. Though the plot is dramatized, this adventurous novel provides an engaging and enlightening depiction of the early 20th century through vivid details of the setting, characters, and social customs. This edition of Dead Men Tell No Tales by E.W Hornung now features a new, eye-catching cover design and is printed in a font that is both modern and readable. With these accommodations, this edition of Dead Men Tell No Tales crafts an accessible and pleasant reading experience for modern audiences while restoring the original drama and suspense of E.W Hornung's work. An English author who gained fame with a series of novels about a raffish but lovable thief named Arthur J. Raffles, Ernest William Hornung also tried his hand at mystery and detective fiction, perhaps inspired by his brother-in-law, Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of master detective Sherlock Holmes. In Dead Men Tell No Tales, Hornung spins a yarn that starts out with a love affair that blossoms on a boat journey, but soon turns deadly. A must-read for lovers of classic detective fiction.
