Layla - Livres de poche

ISBN: 1456473352

[SR: 1607210], Paperback, [EAN: 9781456473358], CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Book, [PU: CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform], CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Layla is a deeply moving, often shocking, true story of redemption. Incest, physical abuse, rape, stripping, prostitution, the drug world and insanity; all of it - the death of a son, the suicide of a brother, the death of a first love, and the death of a father all frame a journey that does not separate light from dark. Jeannie Kerrigan’s story is the story of hope, a gift of love that is never extinguished – the story moves us beyond the usual victim/victimizer/survivor. Growing up in idyllic Green Bay, Wisconsin she was trained from age three to service her college dean/ businessman/catholic father’s sexual perversions. Jeannie tells us throughout the book that redemption is found by putting one foot in front of the other. She teases us through the telling of her story with tantalizing little pieces of why her; why is evil relentlessly stalking such a sweet girl. At age twenty-two Jeannie allows Layla, a counter personality to take over. Layla is tough street smart personality who turns to the dark side of life. Layla was a nickname given to her after a man sang the song Layla to her in a bar trying to win her affection. At each juncture she is forced to look at the duality of life, does she choose life or death. In the end Layla the personality never completely consumes Jeannie, Layla helps her. It seems that at the darkest moments when she should just die, Jeannie the light and Layla the dark work in tandem to survive hell on earth. At the age of twenty- six when she is performing what turns out to be her final trick and she faces possible death once again, she sees her father clearly in the face of the man forcing himself on her. This realization coupled with the love of her son frees her from the demon of her inner rage. Her quest for understanding of her life, her crushingly painful initiation as a shaman/healer, takes a positive turn. Through a series of synchronistic events she is drawn to and ultimately embraced, adopted and mentored by Basil Braveheart, a Lakota elder. Her life begins to find purpose and hope. Suddenly her twenty year old son is killed and Jeannie is taken to the deepest grief and ultimately the highest spiritual connection. She travels to the mountains of Peru, studies esoteric healing of mystery schools in the deserts of Mexico as she turns to the indigenous culture of North and South America to find answers to her life. She is shown that the universe is good - that life is sacred energy in motion. Author Jeannie Kerrigan pulled the story of Layla from the marrow of her bones and the structure of her cells. It is the true life story of her journey through physical and sexual abuse, rape, abduction, drug addiction, stripping, prostitution, death and more death, and it is an account of the human journey between dualities—light and dark, broken and whole, hell and heaven, fear and absolute love. At Layla’s core are ancient wisdom teachings and experiences of earth-based quantum healing through indigenous spirituality, most specifically Lakota Native American Ceremony, and an understanding of what the Lakota call Taku Wakahn Skan Skan, “something sacred in motion.” This book has been described as a portal, a gateway for everyone to step through. Layla is one woman’s autobiography, and it is also the narrative of our collective evolution, our legacy as human beings. It’s a story of the imbalance and wounding between masculine and feminine, a story of sexual abuse in the church, a story of deep and painful family secrets, a story of addiction and avoidance, a story of death and loss and unfathomable grief, and, ultimately, a story of the absolute universal love and goodness that lay at the core of every being. In some form, this is a story that we all carry in our bones. Layla offers every reader the opportunity to experience the search for the Divine, and the realization that it is always present, moving everywhere and in everything.
