Baby Doll And Tiger Tail - nouveau livre

ISBN: 9780811211673

ID: 978081121167

After O'Neill, Williams is perhaps the best dramatist the United States has yet produced. Born in his grandfather's rectory in Columbus, Mississippi, Williams and his family later moved to St. Louis. There Williams endured many bad years caused by the abuse of his father and his own anguish over his introverted sister, who was later permanently institutionalized. Williams attended the University of Missouri, and, after time out to clerk for a shoe company and for his own mental breakdown, also attended Washington University of St. Louis and the University of Iowa, from which he graduated in 1938. Williams began to write plays in 1935. During 1943 he spent six months as a contract screenwriter for MGM but produced only one script, The Gentleman Caller. When MGM rejected it, Williams turned it into his first major success, The Glass Menagerie (1945). In this intensely autobiographical play, Williams dramatizes the story of Amanda, who dreams of restoring her lost past by finding a gentleman caller for her crippled daughter, and of Amanda's son Tom, who longs to escape from the responsibility of supporting his mother and sister. After The Glass Menagerie,Williams wrote his masterpiece, A Streetcar Named Desire, (1947), along with a steady stream of other plays, among them such major works as Summer and Smoke(1948), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1954), and Suddenly Last Summer (1958). His plays celebrate the fugitive kind, the sensitive outcasts whose outsider status allows them to perceive the horror of the world and who often give additional witness to that horror by becoming its victims. Stephen S. Stanton has summed up Williams's virtues and strengths as a genius for portraiture, particularly of women, a sensitive ear for dialogue and the rhythms of natural speech, a comic talent often manifesting itself in black comedy,' and a genuine theatrical flair exhibited in telling stage effects attained through lighting, costume, music, and movements. After The Night of the Iguana (1961), Williams continued to write profusely---and constantly to revise his work---but it became more difficult to get productions of his plays and, if they were produced, to win critical or popular acclaim for them. Williams won the Pulitzer Prize for drama for A Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. He won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for these two and for The Glass Menagerie and The Night of the Iguana. Tennessee Williams, Books, Baby Doll And Tiger Tail Books, WW Norton

Baby Doll & Tiger Tail: A screenplay and play by Tennessee Williams - Livres de poche

ISBN: 0811211673

[SR: 1814775], Paperback, [EAN: 9780811211673], New Directions, New Directions, Book, [PU: New Directions], New Directions, A taut, vivid drama of a voluptuous child-bridge who refuses to consummate her marriage to an older, down-on-his-luck cotton-gin owner. In 1956, Time magazine called Tennessee Williams’ Baby Doll "just possibly the dirtiest American-made motion picture that has ever been legally exhibited." The taut, vivid drama of a voluptuous child-bridge, who refuses to consummate her marriage to an older, down-on-his-luck cotton-gin owner in Tiger Tail County, Mississippi until she is "ready," has gained in humor and pathos over the years as society has caught up with the author’s savagely honest view of bigotry and lust in the rural South. But Tennessee Williams was first and foremost a writer for the stage, and this reissue of his original screenplay for the Elia Kazan movie of Baby Doll is now accompanied by the script of the full-length stage play, Tiger Tail, developed from that screenplay during the ’70s. The text, which incorporates the author’s final revisions, records the play as it was produced at the Hippodrome Theatre Workshop in Gainesville, Florida,, 521000, Performing Arts, 1474, Dance, 11160393011, Individual Directors, 1099186, Magic & Illusion, 271614011, Reference, 2154, Theater, 1, Arts & Photography, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books, 4484, Movies, 4485, Adaptations, 4486, Amateur Production, 4487, Biographies, 4491, Direction & Production, 194809011, Documentaries, 11726, Encyclopedias, 194810011, Genre Films, 4494, Guides & Reviews, 4495, History & Criticism, 4496, Industry, 4498, Reference, 4499, Screenplays, 4500, Screenwriting, 194811011, Theory, 4501, Video, 86, Humor & Entertainment, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books, 2159, Dramas & Plays, 2168, Ancient & Classical, 2161, Anthologies, 2162, British & Irish, 16233611, Children's, 15991411, Comedy, 2165, LGBT, 16244481, Medieval, 10159277011, Regional & Cultural, 2216, Religious & Liturgical, 10159286011, Shakespeare, 15991421, Tragedy, 2160, United States, 10159289011, Women Authors, 17, Literature & Fiction, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books, 9822, United States, 9823, African American, 9857, Asian American, 9882, Classics, 524198, Anthologies, 2160, Drama, 9926, Hispanic, 16004731, Humor, 9955, Native American, 9966, Poetry, 17, Literature & Fiction, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books, 10132, Literary, 17, Literature & Fiction, 1000, Subjects, 283155, Books
