Collates complete with 9 plates (one is in color) and a number of text drawings. Original owner's inscriptions on the half title and the title page. The half title inscription reads, "Dr. G. C. Lippincott U.S.N. / 15 New Cavndish St. / London W. / 28 May, 1878." George Coote Lippincott (1850-1951) was from Salem, New Jersey and graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1875. He joined the Medical Corps of the U.S. Navy and was both an assistant surgeon at sea and was attached to various Naval Hospitals at Massachusetts, Brooklyn, Pennsylvania, and at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. He served on board the U.S.S. Vandalia in the Mediterranean when General U.S. Grant and wife sailed to Egypt, Palestine and Greece (Dec., 1877-Mar, 1878) on their world tour., Books<
