Illustrated with a fold-out map as a frontispiece, titled, "Indian Reservations within the United States Limits, 1883 commissioned by Hiram Price". With a few charts within the text. According to Native Voices, 1883 was the year the Courts of Indian Offenses was established. In a blatant violation of the First Amendment, the U.S. Government set up courts to persecute Indigenous people who engaged in traditional ceremonies and religious practices. Several Native leaders were jailed due to these spurious tribunals. These courts are discussed in this volume on several different pages. This is a history of the actions the United States took to remove Native American peoples from their land, and contains additional information on boarding schools built for Native children, treaties the United States entered into with different tribes, and the book contains what was then a current record of the different reservations established by the U.S. throughout the country.
