When the Grecian traveller boasted of his divine origin, and declared himself to be sixteenth in descent from a god, the priests of Zeus conducted him into the temple, and showed him the mummy-cases of three hundred and forty-five high priests, commencing with the one who had died last, until they came to the first, at the same time affirming that each one was the son of his immediate predecessor, a mortal, the son of a mortal.
