Sir: I asked the German ambassador to-day If he had any news of what was going on in Vienna with regard to Servia. He said that lie had not. but Austria was certainly going to take some step, and he regarded the situation as very uncomfortable. I said that I had not heard anything recently, except that Count Berelitold. In speaking to the Italian ambassador in Vienna, had deprecated the suggestion that the situation was grave, but had said that it should be cleared up. The German ambassador said that it would I a very desirable thing if Russia could act as a mediator with regard to Servia. I said that I assumed that the Austrian government would not do anything until they bad first disclosed to the public their case against Servia, founded presumably upon what they had discovered at the trial.
