Softcover, [ED: 1], Charlotte Dumas, Photography, Photo Monograph, Search Dog Dogs, The World Trade Center, September 11th 2011, 9/11, Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's "The Photobook: A History Volume III", Signed Book Books,, (DUMAS, CHARLOTTE). Dumas, Charlotte. CHARLOTTE DUMAS: RETRIEVED-SIGNED BY THE PHOTOGRAPHER. Signed by the Photographer. Los Angeles: The Ice Plant, 2011. First Edition (Second Printing). 4to. Pictorial Self-Wrappers. Photography Monograph. As New. np (48pp), 20 color and 1 b&w illustration. Designed by Tessa van der Waals. "Since 2002, Charlotte Dumas has worked exclusively on photographic projects exploring the ways in which we use, define and relate to animals. Immediately following the attacks of 9/11, nearly one hundred trained search dogs and their handlers were deployed by FEMA to assist in the rescue efforts at the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Enlisted from a network of twenty-six task forces in eighteen states, the dogs worked around the clock alongside firemen and other teams sorting through the debris to locate survivors in the rubble. One decade later, Dutch photographer Charlotte Dumas succeeded in tracking down fifteen of the surviving dogs that took part in these rescue operations, visiting and photographing them at their homes throughout the US, where they all still lived with their handlers. Composed at close range in natural light, Dumas' powerful portraits-reproduced here in a thoughtfully designed paperback volume with Japanese binding-offer an intimate view into the everyday lives of these highly specialized working animals, now sharing the vulnerability of old age as they once pursued a common heroic goal". A pristine copy of the 2011 second printing of this moving publication (cited on pages 210-211 of Martin Parr and Gerry Badger's "The Photobook: A History Volume III") SIGNED by Charlotte Dumas in black ink on the half title page. 0-9823653-6-5 Inventory Number: 023270. , Los Angeles, [PU: The Ice Plant]

Immediately following the attacks of 9/11, nearly 100 trained search dogs and their handlers were deployed by FEMA to assist in the rescue efforts at the World Trade Center in New York and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Enlisted from a network of 26 task forces in 18 states around the U.S., the dogs worked around the clock to locate survivors in the rubble, alongside firemen and other teams sorting through the debris. Immediately following the attacks of 9/11, nearly 100 trained search dogs and their handlers--enlisted from 18 U.S. states--were deployed by FEMA to join the rescue efforts at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Alongside firemen and other teams sorting through the debris, the dogs worked tirelessly around the clock to locate survivors in the rubble--images of which intrigued Dutch photographer Charlotte Dumas as the events unfolded in the media. One decade later, discovering that only 15 of these dogs were still alive, Dumas succeeded in tracking each of them down, visiting and photographing the dogs at their homes throughout the U.S., where they all still live with their handlers. Composed at close range in natural light, Dumas' portraits--reproduced here in a thoughtfully designed paperback volume with Japanese binding--offer an intimate view into the everyday lives of these animals, now sharing the vulnerability of old age as they once pursued a common heroic goal.
