Published on the occasion of the 14th annual Hamptons International Film Festival, held October 18-22, 2006. A film that conveys the true story of Scott and Marsha Carter. Having graduated from medical school, Scott Carter, a fair-skinned African American, marries and moves to Georgia. When he arrives at the black clinic in Georgia, he discovers that a job promised to him will go to a Southerner. Defeated but undiscouraged, Scott returns to Massachusetts to find employment as an African American. Because his wife is pregnant, Scott takes a job at Portsmouth Hospital, but reluctantly does so as a white man. While there, he manages to save the life of Dr. Bracket, who encourages him to take a postion in Keenham, New Hampshire. In Keenham, still maintaining a "white" cover, Carter proves to be a success. For twenty years, he and his wife live peacefully in Keenham with son, Howard and daughter, Shelley. All goes well until Scott and Howard decide to enter the military during World War II. When Scott applies for officer status with the Navy, an investigation reveals his black heritage, and he is barred from receiving a commission. Set in Atlanta, Portsmouth, MA, and Keenham, NH. Shot in Kittery Point, ME, Kennebunkport, ME, York, ME, Massachusetts, and Harlem. Untitled blue three-ring standard binder. Overall a solid, clean copy. SIGNED. Among the most influential artists of the last twenty-five years, Cindy Sherman made her name with the Untitled Film Stills (1977-1980), in which she enacted a seemingly unending series of b-movie cliches--in the process launching endless seminar discussions on the construction of femininity in and through popular culture. Her next series, Centerfolds (1981) and Fashion (1983–84) continued her investigation of the construction of feminine stereotypes. If these images spurred further reflection on notions of gender, genre, and feminine beauty, later series explored viewers' relation to the abject, or repulsive, especially with relation to waste, decay, bodily fluids and such. More seminar discussions ensued. Around the time these discussions were beginning to peak, the Whitney Museum in New York mounted Sherman's first major retrospective. The catalogue contains a sampling of her work to date plus essays by the show's curator, Lisa Phillips, and critic Peter Schjeldahl (currently the New Yorker's art writer). , Whitney Museum of Art, 1987
