Flying Blind: A Novel of Amelia Earhart - edition reliée, livre de poche

ISBN: 0525943110

[SR: 310318], Gebundene Ausgabe, [EAN: 9780525943112], Dutton Adult, Dutton Adult, Book, [PU: Dutton Adult], Dutton Adult, "Now it was the next morning and the gas was in the plane. The tall, slender woman I'd lusted after the night before was standing next to me on the tarmac, near her ship, buckling a tan helmet under her chin, flashing me that gap-toothed grin she hid from photographers...." The woman, of course, is Amelia Earhart, and the man describing her is Nate Heller, ex-Chicago cop and private detective to the rich and famous. One of the most original characters in the historical mystery area, Max Allan Collins's Heller has jousted with Al Capone, helped out Clarence Darrow, and probed the killing of Huey Long--taking all his cases very personally. But a bad experience with a sadistic Charles Lindbergh has left him leery of flying, and it will take all of Earhart's charm to get him into a plane from St. Louis to Albuquerque, and then to Los Angeles. It's 1935, and Heller has been hired by Amelia's husband (the conniving publisher G.P. Putnam) to both guard her body and search out possible lovers on a book tour. A warm relationship grows up between the flyer and the detective, and when Earhart disappears a few years later, an overage Heller enlists in the Marines to search for her on the island of Saipan. The story is framed by scenes of a retired Nate in 1970 being persuaded to revisit Saipan by a persistent Earhart researcher, and the conclusions that Collins offers about her fate are as convincing as they are moving and exciting. --Dick Adler, 67216011, Populäre Belletristik, 67221011, Action & Abenteuer, 67916011, Anthologien, 67220011, Buch zum Film, 67923011, Familiensagen, 67924011, Historisch, 67223011, Horror, 67926011, Krieg, 273042011, Medizin, 273043011, Metaphysisch, 67925011, Männerabenteuer, 67219011, Märchen, 67217011, Politisch, 55229011, Religion & Esoterik, 65642011, Schwul & Lesbisch, 1322750031, Seeabenteuer, 67218011, Sport, 67927011, Western, 66034011, Belletristik, 54071011, Genres, 52044011, Fremdsprachige Bücher, 68925011, Krimis, 68927011, Anthologien, 68928011, Britische Detektive, 68929011, Cat Sleuths, 68932011, Historisch, 68926011, Kanadische Detektive, 68933011, Nachschlagewerke, 68931011, Roman-noir & Hard-boiled, 68934011, Serien, 68935011, Sherlock Holmes, 68936011, Weibliche Spürnasen, 68333011, Krimis & Thriller, 54071011, Genres, 52044011, Fremdsprachige Bücher

His craft has never been as evident as it is in his latest Nathan Heller novel, Flying Blind. Collins' fictional character has solved some of America's most notorious crimes including the Lindbergh kidnapping -- he's brought down Al Capone -- and uncovered the truth behind the assassination of Huey Long. Now Nathan Heller is faced with something quite different -- not a crime but a disappearance. More painful still, the disappearance of someone he'd known long ago, famed aviatrix Amelia Earhart. He'd been hired to protect her years ago after the discovery of threatening letters. But even Nathan Heller couldn't protect her once she boarded her plane and soared away into the horizon.
